Ballots being mailed to county voters

More than 15,000 ballots will be mailed out Friday for the mail-in election Nov. 8. All active, registered voters will receive a ballot based on the address on your voter registration.

If you are unsure of your voting status, need to update your address, make changes to your record or need to register to vote please visit www.GoVoteColorado.com or visit the Montezuma County Clerk’s office at 140 W. Main St. Suite No. 1, Cortez.

Oct. 31 is the last day to submit a voter registration application and receive a mailed ballot.

Signed ballots must be received by the clerk’s office by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 8, to be counted. The Cortez post office said it will take a week for your returned ballot to be delivered to the clerk’s office via mail.

Ballots will be sent to the address on your voter registration, and after voting you can choose how to return the ballot. Either you can mail it with appropriate postage in time to be delivered to the clerk’s office by Election Day; or you can drop it off at the clerk’s office at 140 W. Main St. Suite 1 in Cortez. Be sure to sign the back of the return envelope.

On Election Day, there will be three polling places: the Montezuma County Clerk and Recorder’s office, the Dolores Public Library, and the Mancos Public Library. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To make sure your voter information is up to date, check at the county clerks office or at www.GoVoteColorado.com

Eligible voters may register to vote or request a replacement ballot at the county clerk’s office during regular office hours, on Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on Election Day at one of the three polling places.

“There will be different questions on the ballot depending on where you live,” said Montezuma County clerk Kim Percell.

To better handle the election, the motor vehicle and recorder’s office will be closed on Nov. 7 and 8 so staff can assist with the election.

For questions call the county clerk’s office at 970-565-3728.
