Dolores school board votes in Frasier

Mother of students replaces McHenry
Rebecca Frasier

The Dolores School board has appointed Rebecca Frasier to replace board member Joye McHenry, who has moved out of the school district.

Frasier works for the District Attorney’s office as the victim compensation administrator. She has two children attending school in Dolores.

Frasier’s interest in serving on the school board was sparked after attending several board meetings this past school year.

“I felt a strong desire to be a part of this process, and I want to be involved with my children’s experience at school,” she said.

As a former employee of the school district, Frasier said she has experience working with students, parents and staff.

“In my position with the DA’s office, my experience with budgets and overseeing monthly board meetings will also be helpful for this school board position,” she said.

Regarding specific goals, Frasier wants to ensure that decisions made by the board are fiscally sound and that the district’s test scores reach the level of accreditation with distinction.

“As a parent of three successful students of Dolores, I possess a dedication to the prosperity of the school district,” she said.

Last October, Frasier was critical of disciplinary action by the school’s athletic director against a student on the volleyball team. She said the school violated its own student handbook by not meeting with parents before suspending the student athlete.

“As a common courtesy, (coaches) should reach out to the parents before taking extreme measures,” Frasier said at the time.

Her board appointment runs through November 2017, at which point she could run for the seat in the board election.
