Little leaguers win district titles

Southwest Colorado Minors, Majors and Seniors advance to state tournaments

The Southwest Colorado Youth Baseball Minors, Majors and Seniors are all headed to their respective Colorado State Tournaments.

The Minors and Majors move on after winning their district tournaments, and the Seniors automatically qualified as the only Senior team in District 4.

The Juniors were the odd team out after falling in the District 4 tournament to Bayfield 22-11 and Durango 14-4 to end their season.

Hosting the 8-10 year-old tournament last week at South Rotary Field in Cortez, the Minors made easy work of their District 4 foes to claim the title.

They first thumped Durango on Tuesday 15-2, before beating Bayfield 19-9 on Wednesday. Finally, in a rematch against Durango on Friday, the Minors punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 15-4 victory.

The Minors will host the Colorado Minors State Tournament at South Rotary Field in Cortez, from July 16-20.

They are in a bracket with Academy Little League, Fruita and North Boudler, and begin play against North Boulder on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The SWC Majors also advanced to the state tournament after winning their District 4 title on Friday.

The Majors opened the tourney with a 17-5 win over Bayfield, and then they bested Durango 16-6. Finally, the Majors claimed the championship in a much closer win over Durango in a rematch, 11-9.

The Majors will travel to South Denver for the Colorado Majors State Tournament, hosted by Arapahoe Little League from July 16-20.

They are in a bracket with Grand Mesa, North Boulder, and the either Academy or Arapahoe, and begin play on Saturday at 8 p.m.

The winner of the Colorado Majors State Tournament will advance to the Little League Baseball Southwest Regional Tournament in Waco, Texas from August 4-10.

As the only team in District 4, the SWC Seniors had a certain secure position in the Colorado Senior State Tournament.

They are in a bracket with Sherrelwood and Cherry Creek and will open play against Sherrelwood at Larry Walker Field in Thornton on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The winner of the Colorado Senior State Tournament will advance to the Senior League Baseball Regional in Seguin, Texas from July 23-27.
