Taste of India restaurant has opened at 1013 E. Main St. in Cortez with the promise of “100 percent healthier food.”

Co-owner and Chef Raju Singh came from Utah to open the restaurant, which he said is the only Indian restaurant within two hours in any direction.

Singh is a 20-year veteran of the restaurant industry. He started a similar restaurant in Minnesota, also called Taste of India, in 2000. He said he liked the location of the restaurant along Main Street and it was good for his family to be located in Cortez.

“This is my main target – to give people good food and make us number one in Cortez,” Singh said.

The menu includes Indian specialty dishes such as curry and masala made with chicken, lamb and seafood, as well as several vegetarian options. It also includes specialty beverages such as chai, as well as naan, a type of Indian bread cooked in a clay oven.

Taste of India is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The restaurant can be reached at 970-564-9897.
