Southwest Colorado wins title in tourney

Micro team emerges victorious in Durango

For the second consecutive season, the Southwest Colorado Micro Division All-Stars won the Durango Machine Pitch Tournament.

Held in Durango, July 11-13, the Tournament featured all-star teams from numerous locations, including Bayfield, Durango and Ignacio.

Keying the Southwest Colorado All-Stars championship were five consecutive wins on July 13 after the team opened the tournament with consecutive losses on July 12.

Among the team’s wins on July 13 were a 12-6 victory over Ignacio, a 9-7 win versus Durango, and a 21-20 extra-inning triumph over Bayfield.

Advancing to a pair of championship contests against Farmington, Southwest Colorado didn’t let up, winning 12-2 and 11-10 to secure their championship.

Members on this year’s championship team included Lincoln Forkner, Samson Lein, Miles Frost, Kail Wayman, Ashton Orr, Airoughn Vangrandt, Jonathan Purkat, Aiden Finney, Bobby Likes, Jairs McDonald, Gabe Samora and Cooper Ross.

Josiah Forkner, Nic McDonald, Jim Lein and Josh Cornett coached this year’s team.
