After a somewhat slow start to their 2014 season, the Dove Creek High School boys’ and girls’ track teams appear to be rounding into form.

Competing in the eleven-team Ron Keller Invitational in Durango on April 15, the Bulldogs more than held their own while recording several top finishes.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs’ boys’ team was senior Nick Jones, who finished fifth in the 100-meter dash (12.07).

Jones also enjoyed a solid day in the long jump, finishing 11th overall (17 feet, ¾ inches).

Other top performers for the Dove Creek boys’ team included Taylor Hankins, who finished sixth in the 300 hurdles (45.68) and eighth in the 100 (12.32).

Chance Randolph finished 14th in the 800 (2:28.64).

On the girls’ side, the Bulldogs were by Corissa Guynes, who finished first in the 100 hurdles (17.01), first in the 100 (13.74) and first in the 300 hurdles (49.92).

Also registering an individual win for Dove Creek was Madison Young, who finished fist in the shot put (34 feet, 7 inches). Young also placed third in the discus (93 feet, 1 inch).

Other top-ten placers for the girls’ team included Jessica Guynes, who finished sixth in the 200 (30.12) and Kristin Knuckles, who finished eighth in the 3200 (14:29.88).

Hoping to continue making improvements in preparation for the state meet, the Bulldogs’ track teams will next compete at the Pine River Invitational in Bayfield on April 19.
