Seth Long

Long

Watching Montezuma-Cortez High School freshman Seth Long, one would hardly believe that the talented athlete graduated from middle school less than one year ago.

Tall, broad shouldered and extremely coordinated for a young man his size, Long has already made his presence felt on the court, on the field and in the classroom.

Suiting up for the M-CHS basketball team during the winter season, Long made key contributions off the bench throughout the year.

While many freshman would have been intimated suiting up for varsity their first year, Long had no such thoughts.

“I really didn’t think, ‘man, I’m playing on the varsity,’” said Long. “I just went out, tried my hardest and tried to help out the team as much as I could.”

This spring season, Long hopes to positively impact the M-CHS baseball team as a first baseman and a pitcher.

A ten year veteran of the sport of baseball, Long stated that he would like to put together a solid season in the field while maintaining a high batting average.

Rounding out a busy spring athletic slate, Long will compete on the M-CHS track team as a high jumper, triple jumper, discus thrower and runner.

“I just started track last year,” said Long.

More than just an athlete, Long excels in the classroom where he lists English, science and history as his favorite subjects.

Asked what he would like to do in the future, Long said that he may elect to pursue a career in physical therapy.

Still more than three years shy of high school graduation however, Long remains focused on improving as an athlete, hunting and spending time with family.

“I like to hang out with my brother and sister,” said the talented freshman, who promises to bring pride to the local community in the years to come.
