Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident Rose Inez Havlik were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 12, at Ertel Memorial Chapel in Cortez. Inurnment took place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at Greenmount Cemetery, Durango.

Inez was born Oct. 7, 1953, in Durango, the daughter of Aurelio and Aurora (Martinez) Sanchez. She passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., at the age of 59.

Inez loved to wander and explore especially the outdoors and nature. She was friendly with everyone she met and never knew a stranger. Inez will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Surviving Inez are her daughters, Gwen Schlehofer and husband, Tracy of Beaver, Okla., Sherry Medina of Moab, Utah, and Christy McGee and husband, Wade also of Moab, Utah; her siblings, Ray Sanchez and wife, Sylvia of Ignacio; Jerry Sanchez and wife, Gloria of Ignacio; Theresa Sanchez of Boise, Idaho; Art Sanchez and wife, Barbara of Spokane, Wash.; Jim Sanchez of Boise, Idaho; Marie Walker and husband, Jeff of Boise, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; by her god-daughter, Jorgina Herrera, of Ignacio, Colo.; and by a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Fred Havlik; parents, Aurelio and Aurora Sanchez; and brother, Leonard Sanchez.

Memorial contributions may be made in Inez' name to the Salvation Army or the Bridge Emergency Shelter in Cortez.
