The end of America

Editor:

I would like to take a moment to congratulate Al Qaeda on its victory over the United States of America.

While the aforementioned may seem to reference the absurd, it is entirely factual in context to how this country has changed in the past decade in response to the attacks of 9/11. We now live in a political system in which the state (federal entities) have the legal authority to discard the Constitution and commit the following: endless incarceration of citizens without trial, the establishment of secret courts, total surveillance of all communications without warrant, execution of citizens without trial, and targeted persecution of truth-seeking journalists and whistleblowers.

In sum, we lost and the core of Americana is dead.

We could probably mount some sort of defense against the death of America but alas, football season is starting and it would take a lot of effort. So congrats, Al Qaeda on a job well done, and maybe after the Superbowl or the conclusion of that TV singing show we might regroup and wave some meaningless flags.
